"The World of Design" Booklet
The World of Design is the signature title in a series of books on design geared to kids 10+. I wanted to produce the book in the US not only for scheduling considerations, but also because it felt like doing so was sending right message to the aspiring young designers for whom the series is intended. With grid endpapers that must line up perfectly to a combination wire-O / wrap-around laminate cover, to the numerous die cut dividers, pull-out timeline, and project pocket, this was a complex project where there were about a hundred things that could potentially go wrong during the production process. The fact that they did not is a testament to the talent of the people at Classic Graphics and to how much they care about the projects that have been entrusted to them.
This was the first project Paintbox Press worked on with Classic Graphics. Although my Initial concept sample was extremely rough, from the first project meeting with Josh Truesdail and Mark Johnson, I felt confident that they got it: from the aesthetics to the tight deadlines to the production values I was hoping to achieve. The project was a success in great measure because of their efforts, and I’m pleased that The World of Design is currently at retail in both the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.
